I hope the Resolve development team continues to make these rapid advances. I have the impression that numerous users who went to Premiere due to FCPX have now gone to Resolve, mainly out of frustration with Premiere's sluggish playback performance on H264, reliability problems and mandatory subscription.

However Resolve currently does not have FCPX's database-like organizational features. I'd love to know how their development team achieved this using cross-platform software. It is the only NLE I've seen with a skimmer-like tool that is almost equal to FCPX. Version 15.x is the only NLE that is roughly competitive with FCPX in playback performance of 4k H264 without proxies (although FCPX is still a bit faster). Resolve is a great program and they have made incredible improvements recently. Also (unlike Premiere) there is no subscription fee.
#DAVINCI RESOLVE BUY UPGRADE#
Like Apple, I don't think Blackmagic has charged an upgrade fee for past Resolve licensees. I have individual plugins that cost more than that. However the $300 price if Resolve Studio is modest relative to the features and performance. These withheld features include deinterlacing, collaborative mode, H.264 accelerated encoding on high-spec nVidia GPUs, HDR, HEVC decoding, Dehaze, Face Refinement, Sharpen, Deflicker, video noise reduction, and above UHD resolutions such as cinema 4k: /DaVinciRe.ature_Comparison.pdf In recent versions Blackmagic has been gradually withholding more features from the free version. Why even get Resolve Studio when the free version does almost everything? Because increasingly the free version does *not* do almost everything.
#DAVINCI RESOLVE BUY SOFTWARE#
Over the years Apple has obtained far more revenue from me and my documentary team than software licensing would have provided. I have purchased many Macs because of this. With FCPX you can run it on any system that "you own or control". I think (like Premiere) you can only run it on two systems concurrently, per license. The modern system of immediate ordering and authentication does not exist with Resolve Studio. In a few cases (again, depending on the reseller) they may have an on-line authorization system which takes several hours.
#DAVINCI RESOLVE BUY SERIAL#
I'm not a very patient man so instead I purchased FCPX instead.ĭepending on the third party reseller, they may send you a card with a serial code on it - through the postal mail.

You have to go to a thirdparty reseller and buy there, and they will send you a USB stick that unlocks the program.

But it turns out you can't just buy a serialcode to register the Studio version. And of course we are always here to assist you with any questions you may have.īTW: did you know that VGTV in Oslo exclusively uses FCP X for its broadcast stations (72 seats)? I will be in Oslo end of January. You can use Ripple Training right within FCP X with the Ripple Training Workflow Extension: Start with the basics, and you will have a joyful ride with FCP X. There are many free tutorials you can watch on Youtube, or you can learn the application in a more organized way by getting a professional training package such as the ones from Ripple Training: They also offer some free basic training videos that should get you up and running with FCP X in no time. It's always a good idea to get some basic training If you want to enjoy FCP X to its fullest. Hi Robert, and welcome to the FCP X community.
